Modular Log Cabin Home

Have you considered a modular log cabin home? Modular homes are taking the housing construction market by storm. They are stylish and generally cost less than traditional house construction. If you are interested in the log cabin look, you don't have to settle for a cabin in the woods. Modular homes can be crafted in the traditional style of the pioneer log cabin.

Modular homes are constructed piece by piece in climate controlled factories. This allows manufacturers to hold costs down and maintain strict quality control. Each area or room of a modular house is assembled as a large rectangle. These modules have all piping, plumbing, and wiring already installed. When all pieces of a modular home are completed, they are shipped to the building site and assembled. A modular home can cost less than a traditional home because the construction crew is on site for only a few weeks instead of a few months.

It is easy to give your modular home the log cabin look. It won't be drafty and cold like a real log cabin, however. Modular log cabin houses are every bit as airtight and weather proof as any modern home. The difference will be that the outer surface will not be brick or siding. Instead, the outer surface will appear to be a log cabin, whether or not the logs are real.

It is impractical to build a modular home with outer walls made of real logs. There are various ways to simulate that look, however. Milled half logs can be installed as the outer walls, covering the walls pre-assembled at the factory. This can be bulky and time intensive, however. It is likely that your modular log cabin house builder will recommend wooden faux log siding. This is also called half-log siding. These are sheets of rough sawn lumber that incorporate several log slices, creating the appearance of stacked logs.

A traditional log cabin with full, uneven logs notched at the corners is impractical to build as a main residence. Furthermore, it would be necessary to continually fill and chink the spaces between the logs to prevent cold wind and rain from entering. However, a modular log cabin home can give your house the old cabin style with all the modern conveniences and energy efficiency.
