A dog is more than just a pet. When nothing seems to be going right in the world, you can count on a dog to be of companionship. And taking good care of your dog is more than just giving it a roof under its head and feeding it the right food. You need the right amount of maintenance to ensure your dog’s fitness.
The dog is man’s best friend, and can be your best friend too if you give it quality time and attention. It’s a good sign that the owner loves his or her dog if he or she spends a lot of time playing with it, teaching it new tricks, or even doing simple things together.
There is no perfect way to teach a dog how to do tricks and how to instill discipline in it. One way we suggest is to teach it through playing games, instead of the usual trick-teaching routine thus making it fun for both owner and pet.
One game is called follow the leader. You can either do this in groups or by yourself, but make sure your dog is with you, of course. Start by placing several objects, such as cones or cans, on the ground and “following” them by going around them, and asking your dog to do the same. Further strengthening that could be by switching who the leader is and doing the entire process all over again.
Another game is hide and seek. Children play this game with other children but by teaching the dog to stay in one place then have the dog search for the person when the dog’s name is called, it teaches the dog discipline and will make the dog learn to wait until being called.
Another interesting twist would be hiding treats in a designated area and asking your dog to look for it. This develops the dog’s sense of smell, and still would serve will in teaching it how to discipline itself and act only when it needs to act.
Waking up in the morning and taking the dog out for a jog is another good chance to spend time with the dog. This gives both the owner and pet a good exercise keeping both physically active and in shape. Once you’re through walking or jogging, you can try other dog-friendly exercises like having it catch a stick or a Frisbee this strengthens your dog’s limbs while helping it develop quicker reflexes in order to successfully catch the object being thrown.
It is certainly a fun and worthwhile way to spend free time if you spend it with your pet dog. Your pet could learn several things good manners and discipline primarily while getting good physical and mental exercise as the two of you have fun as man together with his Best Friend.
