It is certainly possible to put together a lovely garden without needing a lot of expensive equipment but having the correct gardening tools can help you save a lot of time. Obviously you can use your hands for digging holes but why bother when you can use your garden trowel to do it for you. The fact is this: having the right tools will help you do your job. Figuring out which tools you need can be difficult if you are new to gardening. Here are some of the important tools that you should have if you want to grow a beautiful garden.

Every gardener, regardless of expertise, needs a good pair of gardening gloves. Gardening gloves help protect your hands as you work in the dirt and with the plants.

Most gardeners like working the earth with their bare hands but sometimes gloves are necessary for protection. A perfect example of this is the way that gardening gloves keep your hands from being ripped up by the thorns that are on rosebushes. You also want to wear gloves when you are working with fertilizer and compost-two substances that often leave behind icky residues. There are a lot of bugs and other creatures that are going to take up residence in your garden; your gloves keep you from having to touch them directly.

Kneelers are also a good idea. A lot of gardening involves crawling around on your hands and knees and crouching down. You can build your own garden kneelers without much difficulty, all you need are some large pieces of Styrofoam or other (similar) types of materials. If you don’t have these things on hand you can buy specially made gardening mats. Mats and kneelers are used to help ease the wear and tear on your knees that comes from gardening. They can also do a great deal to protect your clothing from the wear and tear that comes from gardening.

A hovel is very important. You can purchase a long handled or short handled hovel. Typically a hovel is a shovel that has a rounded point. Many gardeners prefer short handled hovels because they help a gardener balance while longer handled hovels do not. Gardeners dig holes with hovels.

They move the soil and lift plants safely without your having to worry about pulling on rooting systems or damaging the root bulb. Hovels can also be used to tamp down dirt as you move your plants or do your seed planting.

Gardening is great! Many people find gardening particularly rewarding and sometimes soothing. In fact, many gardeners reward themselves with their own plants-especially those that grow edible plants. Puttering around in a garden is how a lot of people relax. The nice thing about gardening is that you can do it year round, indoors and outdoors and with as big or as small plants as you want to grow. When you use the right gardening tools the experience is even better because you get a lot more done and are more free to just enjoy your hard work!
