If you are about to start planning your wedding reception you may be feeling more than a little overwhelmed. There are so many factors to consider and it’s tough to make a decisions about what you want. You know that your guests are going to be making their own critiques and you don’t want to disappoint. The best way to be sure this part of your day doesn’t get put on the back burner but doesn’t consume your life for the next several months is to set some goals.

So how can you be sure that this part of the day is everything you dreamed of? Have a vision for exactly what you want to see when you first walk through the doors as husband and wife and map it out. The best way to do this may be to come up with a theme. Think of an interest or passion that you share in common with your future spouse. Having this idea in mind can be the best guide to keeping you on track. Once you have that perfect picture in mind, work backwards. Start off by making notes, cut out pictures, save fabric, whatever you need to make it fit your style.

Now that you have your theme in mind and have set some goals for yourself, work backwards. Evaluate all the many parts and pieces that you are going to need to reconstruct this perfect event that you have in your mind…which brings us to another point – don’t keep everything in your mind. Gather every kind of inspiration that you can find all together in one place like a collage. Find pictures, magazine articles, pieces of fabric, centerpiece ideas and get them all side-by-side in one place. You already have enough going on in your mind without cramming all these ideas into it.

Remember that everyone is different and you can’t waste time thinking about what so-and-so might think of your reception or how it will compare to the numerous other receptions you will attend for friends throughout the year. If you always keep your mind set on what suites your needs for the wedding day you can’t go wrong.

Find all the parts and pieces that you need to make it come together, and don’t be afraid to kick some ideas to the curb along the way. As you go along you may find that some things aren’t as crucial to the event as you first thought. Don’t be afraid to say goodbye to those things and move on. Though you have your vision as a guideline be flexible with it. Accept some new ideas into the picture that you didn’t have when first starting out and get rid of those ideas that are bringing you too much stress and worry to really be worth it. No matter what have fun with the planning of this important part of your day.
