After school programs are sprouting up in large numbers and most of these activities are booked full. Over the past few years there has been a huge increase in demand for these activities. There are lots of benefits of enrolling your child in an after school activity. As the saying goes, “An idle mind is a devil’s workshop”.
After school activities keeps your child busy. They can create something, learn something, make new friends etc etc. Their mind is not idle. They are busy and they enjoy this. Televisons and computer game can keep your child occupied but they don’t help in the development of your child. Your child is usually idle in front of a televison. An aftr school program on the other hand keeps your child busy and active.
These classes are all about boosting your child’s sense of competence. Effective after school kids activities encourages children to grow stronger – mentally, emotionally and physically.
It is good to have hobbies. Dance class or a martial arts or whatever the extra activity might be, it will help in your child’s development.
Academics is important but it is not the only important thing in your child’s education – activities like dance classes, sports expand your child’s horizons.
When deciding on an activity,
keep your child’s interests in mind – leave your interests aside. Speak to your child about various activity options and then pick an activity accordingly. Try and select an activity provider closer to your home. Don’t spend too much time travelling. Once you select an activity stick with it for some time. Don’t keep changing activities every term.
Let the child develop interest in the activity and establish himself in it. Don’t change activities every term. Some classes like music classes for example need a lot of time and practice. Your child will have to practice the instrument or the voice after coming back home. Otherwise he will not benefit from the weekly lessons. Some parents get a bit too carried away about this and book their child in way too many activities – don’t do that. The important thing is that your child should have fun.
If your child is suddenly saying no to an activity which he or she previously enjoyed then don’t immediately stop the activity. Find out what the reasons are. Most of the times, the child will complain but once they get to the centre, they will love and enjoy the activity. Be sure you speak to the activity teacher and your child patiently and then make the decision.
After school programs are good for your child’s developemnt. Unlike regular school work they donot tax your child.
Children learn and develop interests in new areas – all essential in their growing process.
