I was a stranger to self defense products before an incident hit a little too close to home. My younger brother was a victim of a mugging on his way home from a concert in Bristol, a few towns over.
Pete told us the terrifying account of how he was held at knifepoint in an abandoned parking lot. Thinking only of preserving his life, he gave the robber his cash, his mp3 player and his mobile phone.
When he got home, he looked so distressed that we were all worried. Luckily, the mugger took the items and left him unharmed. Even days later, he would grumble about how he would have kept all his possessions if only he had defense weapons like a stun gun or even pepper spray.
Since I was his older sister, I was afraid that he’d be hurt if he went up and brawled with a criminal. I promptly explored the World Wide Web for details about self defense products.
Surfing the net, we both looked at various devices and talked about how each would have benefitted him during his encounter. I thought that the parking lot should have had hidden cameras and he suggested that a personal alarm may have frightened the robber away.
