Chances are there are some uninvited residents on your pet if you see it scratching excessively. If these pests are already in the fur of your dog or cat, it’s not unlikely that some of them are already hiding in your home. You need to get rid of fleas right away by focusing first on your furry pal, then your home.

There are anti-flea shampoos and medications administered orally which you can get at the local pet supplies store. However, it’s a wise move to let your vet know about it. He or she will be the one to tell you which one’s safe to use.

Remove those pests manually by using a comb designed specifically for such task. Every single one of those insects you obtain from Tiger or Fido has to be dumped into warm soapy water. For an animal with very short fur, try wrapping duct or masking tape around your hand, with the sticky strip facing out. Use this hand in patting down your pet.

Mix hot water and detergent and splash it on outdoor spots frequented by your furry pal. This will exterminate those bugs present there, awaiting the return of their host. Its bedding should be washed thoroughly with hot water and bleach, if possible. Doing so will kill off both eggs and adult insects. Make sure that your cat or dog doesn’t get in contact with others who might have an infestation.

Now it’s time to focus your attention in your home. Take out your vacuum cleaner from storage and use it on anything you suspect these creepy crawlers are hiding in. Use it on carpets or upholstered furnishings your furry pal frequents. Slowly go over tight corners, cracks on floor and walls, etc. Once you’re through vacuuming, transfer the bag into a plastic bag, tie the open end and stash in the freezer for a few minutes to kill those insects.

Take your pillowcases, sheets, drapes, etc. To the washing machine and launder them using hot water. Those pests won’t be able to survive high temperature. In order to be on the safe side, stash them in the dryer afterwards, using the hottest setting that’s safe for the fabrics. For additional measure, use flea spray by following the directions on the label.

When you wish to get rid of fleas from your life, keep your eyes peeled for some early signs and spring into action right away. Make sure that you do everything you can to ensure that re-infestation is kept at bay.
