A computer can many times be helped by simply turning it off and restarting it. Many times I have told people to shut their pc down, give it a minute or so and then start it back up. And if it is still doing whatever it was doing, call me back. Usually about 75% of the time I won’t get called back.
When your pc is shut down and then started up again it will give it a fresh start. It can then access an application without any of the previous data files opening that might have been causing the computer’s condition. It only starts up the actual program files until the pc operator accesses other produced files such as documents.
The same thing can be done as well on an individual program. I have had to close down and restart an accounting program several times. There can be so much information and sometimes several workstations feeding into a server and it just needs a clean start.
What is really going on is the RAM or random access memory is all clogged up. As well as the virtual memory is scattered. Then you have got the registry posts as more programs and data are entered into the computing. When you restart the computer you empty out the RAM and virtual storage memory. You might say they start over.
We don’t usually find this type problem with notebooks. You turn it off regularly to take it home or back to the office. But a regular desktop pc is another story. I’ve known of people not ever shutting down their desktop except for when an update or something needs a restart. But usually this will lead to problems as a computer gets older.
Sometimes computer shut downs are much slower than they should be. This could possibly be a symptom of problems ahead or maybe just something to keep an eye on.
