There is one effective way to keep your lawn green even though your dog keeps on relieving himself in the grass, you can always dilute it. Just be sure to pour the water before the dog’s urine dries in the grass. And since it is very difficult to keep on following your dog whenever they pee in the grass, you might as well consider getting a sprinkler so that your grass will always be watered as often as you want.
To help combat urine burn in the summer – or year-round in areas that stay warm and dry – one might want to get grasses that are more resilient to dog urine. For example, a study done in 1981 by A.W. Allard, D.V.M., of the effects of dog urine on four different grasses in Colorado showed fescue and perennial ryegrass to be the most resistant to dog urine, and Kentucky bluegrass and Bermuda grass to be the most sensitive.
But this may not be true in certain areas. The reverse may be true to the Southern region. The Bermuda grass seems to more durable in the hot weather while the fescue tends to burn faster in the hotter areas.
If you want to be sure, you just have to check out with your local garden expert. For example, if you live in Nebraska, what works for Colorado and the Southern Areas may not work for you. It is good to be sure.
You might want to visit the local agriculture office to know which other plants can be good in the garden with dogs that are loitering around and pees a lot too. If you also want, you can visit the local nurseries who are truly also knowledgeable in these matters.
